The concept of this book is dystopian. We are dropped into a new world where our main character has just birthed her stillborn daughter and from three the book doesn’t really stop. There are a lot of unexplained things like how this wilderness remained untouched and what the study is truly for. Based on dystopians in the past, I am willing to bet there is a big bad controlling a lot of the mishaps that have been going on in this wilderness
- Bea: The mom of Agnes and the main character. Seems a little selfish and like she really wasn’t ready for motherhood. We end part 3 with her literally running away from her husband and child after finding out her mom is dead.
- Agnes: The daughter with a very mature name and a very mature outlook on life. She is the reason Bea went to the wilderness in order for her to get better. She’s very odd: she has taken to mimicking her mother and has a handle on the wild as she just copies what the animals do. A lot of what she says is really ominous.
- Glen: He is Bea’s older husband who found the experiment through his job at a university. He is kind and a true leader.
- Carl: One of the members of the community who is vicious and loves the power he has taken. He is currently preoccupied with creating a power couple with Bea because he is obsessed with power.
- Val: She is Carl’s partner. Nothing important has really happened with her but I feel like it might so I have added her to the list.
- Rangers: Group of “cops” that keep track of the community and their whereabouts. They also haven’t done anything yet, but I feel they will be important later.
Things I Liked:
- Glen
Things I Did Not Like:
- the pacing of this book so far is excruciating
